Smith Middle School in Chapel Hill, NC, incorporates extensive daylighting, a 2.6 million gallon per year rainwater catchment system, a solar hot water system for the cafeteria, a two kilowatt roof-integrated photovoltaic system which converts sunlight to electricity, and numerous green products, and was three-quarters of a million dollars under budget.
