Not
only are Innovative Design's daylit schools environmentally sound and energy-efficient,
but, more importantly, they are having a positive impact on student and
teacher performance, health, and attitude. We feel that the schools we
design should make a strong statement to the students.
If
our school buildings are thoughtfully designed according to sound environmental
principles, we can expect our children to be environmentally responsible
adults.

"I
firmly believe every child deserves an environment like this - one designed
to be conducive to learning. This is a vision of what all schools should
be like for every child."

Four
Oaks Elementary, Clayton Middle and Selma Middle schools, located in Johnston
County, are proven to be among the lowest energy-consuming schools in the
Southeastern United States, mainly due to the daylighting strategies. More
important is the fact that well-designed daylit schools with quality full-spectrum
lighting can improve students' attendance, productivity, and academic achievement.

A
1995
study conducted on the performance of these schools indicated that
they save significant operating money, and they actually improve student
performance. When comparing End-of-Grade Tests and California Achievement
Tests, the students who attended the daylit schools for two to three years
were out-performing the students in non-daylit schools in the same county
by 14%. |
